Canon Information | Phonetic Code
Dec. 7th, 2014 07:41 pm[ Phonetic Code (foreign language communication chart) ]
The phonetic code was developed to facilitate communication in wartime, using short words like “alpha” and “bravo” to prevent errors in transmission and hearing. Letters of the alphabet were assigned short words. “A” being “Alpha,” and so on. Originally there were various versions used by the military, the airlines, etc. But the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) converted it into uniform code which is still used today.
