In the world of Black Technology, Arm Slaves nearly eight meters tall roam the battlefields, and ultra-large high-tech submarines silently guide through the water. Palladium reactors can be imbedded into an Arm Slave. ECS can provide total concealment, electronic fibers mimic human muscles, and the EMFC system controls super-powerful submarines. The TDD-1, as well as ultra-sensitive computers, and the near-mystical “Lambda Driver” are also in use. Sophisticated military technology has changed the ways battles are fought.

There are many, like Lt. Commander Karlinin and Commander Mardukas, who simply cannot believe this type of technology exists.

However, it is the reality. Technology has advanced at unimaginable levels. The acceleration began in the 1980s. Besides the success of weaponry technology like the SDI system, which begun by the Reason administration, civilian technology progressed remarkably. It resulted in advanced technology in society as well.

This body of technology which defies reality is known as Black Technology, or “non-existent technology.” So just how was this ultra-technology born? The one thing that is clear is that the ones who “conceived of” Black Technology do not exist anywhere in this world. They just knew ultra-technology “before they were born.”

The people who brought Black Technology into the world are called the “Whispered” or, “Those who are whispered about.” There are only a limited number of people like Kaname Chidori and Tessa Testarossa who are known as the “Whispered.” And their value is immeasurable.

The Tuatha de Danaan, the first Tuatha de Danaan class flagship of Mithril’s West Pacific Ocean Battle Group. It is Mithril’s largest, most powerful weapon, which has been in commission for about a year. The cost to construct it was approximately 5 billion dollars. It’s main engine is a Palladium Reactor. In spite of being a giant submarine, the likes of which has never been seen, it has high underwater maneuverability and navigational capacity thanks to the advanced propulsion systems SCD (Super Conductive Drive) and EMFC (ElectroMagnetic Fluidics Controller). On board are approximately 250 personnel, including the ship’s company, the land troops and logistical groups such as the AS maintenance crew. Its systems are highly computerized and various equipment and instruments are regulated by the central computer, the mother AI Dana. With the support of Dana in “Complete Automatic Mode”, it is even possible for one person to conduct limited maneuvers.

The idea of an assault landing submarine that could invade deep into enemy territory and launch a sneak attack with its payload of land troops has long been a target of research to make it practical. However, questions remained as to how much payload a submarine could carry, the reduction in covertness of a large ship, and the bad cost-performance ratio of operating such a vessel. Still, put into use under Mithril, which possesses ample funds and technology and puts a premium on secrecy and operating through few people, that conclusion no longer holds true. There is nothing more superior than a submarine at transporting small squads of troops to operating areas.

The TDD-1 was designed over several years by Teletha Testarossa, who is a Whispered well-versed in the structure and operation of submarines, and “one other person”. Having attended such places as the NUWC (Naval Underwater Warfare Center) since her early teens, it seems Tessa has noticed the possibilities that an assault landing submarine from early on. The hull of the TDD-1 is Soviet’s super-submarine project 985, which was abandoned half way through construction and later procured in secrecy. Tessa and others carefully redesigned it, taking full advantage of Black Technology, and the ship was reborn. The TDD-1, the most powerful powerful and one and only assault landing submarine, was built on her application theory of submarines.

Canon Information | Guardian Angel

In April of [this year], a hijacking incident occurs in the Autonomous State of Hanka. The aim is to kidnap a Japanese girl named Kaname Chidori, who is deemed to be a high-level “Whispered.” A terrorist named Gauron is behind the attempt. Ironically the drug given to her at the time awakens Kaname to her powers. The situation is controlled with an electronic attack launched by Western Pacific Fleet (Tuatha de Danaan). The Russian research facility which first discovered Kaname’s existence is also destroyed. Mithril’s Information Division spreads counter-information that Kaname is not a “Whispered” and her safety is assured.

The people who brought Black Technology into the world are called the “Whispered” or, “Those who are whispered about.”

The phonetic code was developed to facilitate communication in wartime, using short words like “alpha” and “bravo” to prevent errors in transmission and hearing. Letters of the alphabet were assigned short words. “A” being “Alpha,” and so on. Originally there were various versions used by the military, the airlines, etc. But the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) converted it into uniform code which is still used today.

Not affiliated with any government. That is Mithril. Formed several decades before others like it. Mithril is a phantom paramilitary organization which which hires mercenary soldiers from all countries of the world. A counter-terrorist group, it seeks out and destroys guerilla hideouts and attacks terrorist training camps. In layman’s terms they “put out the fires of boundary disputes.” It is rumored that Mithril has the most powerful military capability in the world. The person on charge at Mithril who oversees the governing council is a man named Lord Mallory. The organization is divided into three departments. The Combat Division is under General Voda, formerly of the United States Navy, and he has four fleets operating under him. It is headquartered in Sydney, Australia in a security firm named Argarus. The Intelligence Division, as the name suggests, collects data. Through a network of reconnaissance satellites they are able to collect and disseminate information.They also serve as a crucial communication link to during operations conducted by the Combat division. It is said that they have covert members engaged in espionage. It is head by General Mayer Amit, originally from Israel. The Research Division in “Black Technology,” develops new weaponry and analyzes military techniques and strategy. The person in charge is Dr. Painrose and he has set up bases throughout the world disguised local businesses and researched facilities. The mission of Mithril, which answers to man, religion, or government, is “to stop international disputes.” Just how was this secret anti-terrorist organization which is named after an unbreakable metal of legend formed? The details are shrouded in mystery.

CALL SIGNS

All the call signs used by Mithril’s Western Pacific Ocean Battle Group are derived from ancient Scandinavian letters called “runes”. The word “rune” means “secret”. Aside from everyday use of language, this script was also used in ancient times as an extension of that in magic and incantation. As evidence by its appearance in many works of fantasy, such as Lord of the Rings where the magical metal “mithril” comes from, many people have sensed a certain magical or mystical quality in runic script.

Runes are ideograms, and each has its own name and meaning. They are still used to this day in such things as fortune-telling based on those meanings. While they are pragmatic mercenary outfit, they must have done it “for luck”. All of the Western Pacific Ocean Battle Group’s call sign have a strong connection between the position and the meaning of the rune. Several of these are introduced below.

The Jindai Municipal High School that Kaname Chidori, Kyoko Tokiwa, and the others attend is located in Jindai, Chofu in Tokyo, just 10 minutes by foot from Senkawa Station on the Keio Line. It is a high school that reveres history and tradition, and known for its free school spirit. The modern-looking school and PE uniforms were designed by Jin High’s OG, the fashion designer Shinki Doji. It is a famous uniform that has even been featured in fashion magazines and is said to be extremely popular among the girls. With eight classes to a grade and a basic class size of 40 students, the school has a total of 960 students and 60 teachers. The principle is Madam Takako Tsuboi, who is known for her philanthropy.

The school traces its history back to the early Showa Era. It was established as the number 15 Prefectural Girls High School and became municipal high school due to the educational reform came after the war. Currently, approximately 80% of the students plan to attend college. Approximately 10% of the students make it into big-name universities. The school ranks at the lower end of the top schools, but a curriculum full of individuality that was in line with the students’ individuality and hopes was implemented in the school year of Heisei 6 and the education it provides is unique, revolutionary even, for a municipal high school. The instructors do not fall short being excellent as well as unique. But above all else, the school’s greatest distinguishing characteristic is the fact that firearms and explosives are used there on a regular bases.

As a product of this free and open-minded school spirit, the student council has asserted “self-government” at Jin High. In particular, the current student council president, Atsunobu Hayashimizu of Year 3 Class 4, has exercised considerable political power both publicly and behind the scenes at Jin High since he took office. He has strived to expand the students’ right to self-government. Known for speaking and behaving on a level that beyond the comprehension of the common student, Hayashimizu looks carefully at the big picture and he is also Sousuke’s sympathetically.

A third generation AS with a fully electric drive system. It is in the possession of the secret military organization, Mithril. The pilot is Sergeant Sousuke Sagara of the SRT. Its unit design comes from an actual weapon that existed in the middle-ages - the crossbow.

The Arbalest is an experimental unit built in absolute secrecy based on the prototype M9 Gernsback. Its basic functionality and construction conform to that of Mithril’s M9s that the other SRT squad members pilot. It includes a Palladium Reactor (cold fusion reactor) as a power source with features such as the ECS (electromagnetic camouflage system) that allows for invisible mode, state-of-the-art vetronics (on-board electric apparatus), and an Al (call sign “Al”) with a voice recognition. It also shares many of the various options, equipment, and repair parts of M9.

The reason it is an experimental unit because of the special device that occupies a large portion of the unit called the Lambda Driver. The Lambda Driver is said to amplify the pilot’s offensive and defensive impulses, and to convert them into paraphysical force. In Episode 1, it protected the unit from a direct hit by rounds fired from a tank cannon and it has similarly protected Sousuke in times of danger on several other occasions. However, being born of technology called Black Technology that transcends established theories, details regarding the Lambda Driver and the principles upon which it operates are unknown. The Arbalest is the sole unit in Mithril’s possession that is equipped with the Lambda Driver.

M9 D Series Prototype Falke ]

In developing the 3rd generation ASs, Geotron considered several variations on the model. Aside from the E series, which became the basis for the mass production model, there is the one C series model that became the ARX-7 and this D series prototype, the Falke.

It seemed like the Falke would never develop beyond the plan on the drawing board, but two prototypes were manufactured at Geotron’s Dortmund plant. The additional armor on the upper body and the jet-black paint job makes it appear very different, but the basic specs are the same as the E series. However, since the Lambda Drive that was planned for it was left off, there is leeway in its payload.

The Falke is equipped with an “ITCC-5 Integrated Tactical Message Control System”, a highly advanced data link for commanding the frontline, and its pilot Belfangan Clouseau. In his hands, the falke displays capabilities that are incomparable to that of normal M9s.

[ RK-92 Savage (Arm Slave/AS) ]

A second generation AS that is widely used in the Eastern-black countries. Cheap and produced in large quantities, all sorts of modifications and variations have been developed. The old models that Gates deployed in the tunnel under Yangtze were all unmanned. The manned units that appeared in the later half were relatively newer models.

[ MH-67 PAVE MARE (Aircraft Medium Lift Assault Helicopter) ]

The two-engine medium transport helicopter that Mithril employs. Its nickname is the Pave Mare. They are commonly used to deliver ASs, combat personnel, and their weaponry. They act a s swift delivery mechanism of land troops to the theater of operation.

The craft was based on the CH-67, which was developed primarily by aircraft manufacturers like Sikorsky and Martin Marietta. This was made more compact with the use of the latest in 90s technology based on the design concepts used in the large H-53 metal helicopters. In spite of being a medium helicopter, this highly reliable and easily maintained helicopter was able to attain take-off weight, speed, and flying range comparable to that of the MH-67. The MH-67s of the Tuatha de Danaan Battle Group are equipped with next generation ECS, and for mounted armament they have one AM-11 12.7mm chain gun and two M134 miniguns. They can also fire Hellfire AGMs and Stinger Missiles.

The assault landing submarine TDD-1 has eight of these MH-67s on board. A number of them are stationed on Merida Island as well and are used for a variety of purposes, such as transporting members of Guam.

Amalgam’s pride and joy, the AS with a Lambda Driver and an ominous silhouette, Mithril’s identifying code for it is Venom, the same as for the m type. On this occasion, it appears as Gates’ personnel AS. It is also the model once used by Gauron on Berlidaobu Island. While rudimentary, it is equipped with an ECS capable of invisibility mode. Technologically speaking, their ECS particularly excels at hiding long wavelengths of light, and the entire AS is painted in red to take advantage of this characteristic. Its basic performance is the same as the M9. However, there are no ordinary means for an M9 to win against Chodar i equipped with a Lambda Driver.

The AS was picked up by the TDD-1 after the operation on Berildaobu Island. While it was only a short time, the technical officer Reming conducted an examination of it. As a result, it is known that the construction of its Lamba Driver is approximately the same as the device equipped with on the ARX-7.
